What is refractive surgery

Refractive eye surgery is the term used for surgeries to help people see more clearly. There are many variations of this type of surgery, including laser eye surgery, cataract surgery and other procedures such as conductive keratoplasty. It is important for a brief description of these types of surgeries in case you or someone you know, you should never need more need of such treatment.

The most popular genre of refractive eye surgery is laser surgery or LASIK surgery more precisely. Why is it more popular is that there is a relatively quick recovery time after LASIK, there are no visible marks left on the eye after surgery and many patients have undergone this type of procedure. Popular refractive eye surgery since it has its drawbacks, such as the risk of complications after LASIK are flap, which could lead to eye infections, dry eyes and experience visual distortions, such as glare, halos, double vision and bursts. This phenomenon is rare and usually these complications can be resolved with surgery to improve or just until it is resolved.

Cataract surgery is a type of refractive eye surgery, but only performed in people with cataracts. Cataracts are usually caused by the eye’s lens loses its transparency, or become cloudy with age. This is because the lens constantly adding fiber to the lens itself, combined with the metabolic changes. As such, the purpose and can not accommodate focus light rays from an image on the retina to form a sharp image. Furthermore, loss of transparency of the lens causes light to be scattered around the eye, which also contributes to the blurring of the image. What is cataract surgery does not replace the lens with a clear artificial intraocular lens (IOL) so you can see clearly again, even in old age.

There is another known decrease in eye operations of refraction. These types of surgery are generally more applicable for those farsightedness, laser eye surgery is best suited for people with myopia and astigmatism. However, these procedures are always in demand and it’s always good to know a thing or two about it. Conductive keratoplasty (CK) is a less well-known procedures which uses a high frequency electric probe to transmit radio waves to reduce the peripheral cornea. In doing so, helps to increase the power of the cornea and thus helps to treat people with mild to moderate amounts of farsightedness. There is also a more recent development called corneal implants, which inserts a black porous ring under the flap, such as LASIK surgery, or a stromal pocket to help those who have presbyopia.
