Current trends and regulations
Today, the public is better informed about their health and the options available to prevent and / or treat the disease. Add to this knowledge with the current emphasis on organic and natural foods, herbal medicines have become increasingly popular. Traditional herbs and herbal formulations used in India and China make their way to Europe and therefore increase the range of drugs available herbal. Because of this trend, it is even more important that people know that herbal remedies do not produce physiological effects in the body and therefore should be used with caution. Until recently, the regulation of herbal medicines in the UK was fairly relaxed but particular safety concerns have emerged, for example, the interaction between St John’s Wort with some conventional medicines.
